Andro Bušlje rumoured to return to Jug Dubrovnik

Andro Bušlje, one of Croatia’s greatest ever defenders, is reportedly set to make a sensational return to VK Jug Dubrovnik, the club where he made his name.

According to rumours circulating in Croatian and Greek media, the 39-year-old could be preparing to leave Olympiacos after three seasons with the Greek giants. If confirmed, Bušlje would reunite with the club where he began his senior career in 2004 and where he spent more than a decade, winning multiple domestic titles and the LEN Champions League in 2006.

Bušlje’s potential return would be a significant boost for Jug, who have been rebuilding in recent years and are looking to add experience and defensive leadership to their roster. The Dubrovnik-born centre-back has enjoyed a decorated career, with stints at Posillipo, Olympiacos (in two spells), Pro Recco, and Mladost. His honours list includes Champions League titles, national championships in three countries, and a long list of individual awards.

Internationally, Bušlje is one of the most decorated players in Croatian water polo history. He won Olympic gold in London 2012, silver in Rio 2016, two world titles (2007, 2017), and a European title in 2010. With a record seven FINA World Championship medals, he has long been considered among the best defenders the sport has seen.

Although he retired from international duty in 2022, Bušlje remains a key player at club level and recently won the Greek Championship and Cup with Olympiacos. The 2024/25 season also saw him named LEN Champions League Defender of the Year once again—proving he still operates at an elite level.

Should the rumours be true, Bušlje’s homecoming would be one of the most emotional and high-profile returns in Croatian water polo in recent years. His experience and deep ties to the city could make him a cornerstone of Jug’s ambitions heading into the new season.
