ASC Duisburg takes derby victory

The local derby in Duisburg highlighted the 12th round of the German Water Polo League. ASC Duisburg emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle with Duisburger SV, while league leaders Waspo Hannover showcased their dominance with a crushing win.

ASC Duisburg entered the match as the favorite against a winless Duisburger SV. Despite taking an early 3:0 lead, ASC faced fierce resistance as Duisburger equalized at 3:3. The two sides remained locked in a tight contest up to 7:7. ASC pulled ahead by scoring twice in the final minute of the second quarter, entering the third period with a 9:7 lead.

Duisburger continued to push, leveling the score at 10:10 early in the fourth quarter. However, ASC held their ground, sealing a 13:11 victory. Sascha Seifert and Elias Metten each scored three goals for ASC Duisburg, while Djordje Tanaskovic of Duisburger, a product of Partizan’s water polo school, was the game’s top scorer with four goals.

Waspo Hannover displayed no mercy in their 25:4 demolition of Neukölln. Four players led the scoring charge with four goals each: Nikola Stankovic, Lukas Kuppers, Denis Strelezkij, and Nikola Milradovic.

OSC Potsdam also claimed victory, defeating White Sharks Hannover 10:7. The match was closely contested until OSC broke away with a 3:0 scoring run in the third quarter, extending their lead to 9:5. White Sharks couldn’t recover, allowing OSC to secure the win.

Spandau 04 had a bye this round. In the standings, Waspo Hannover remains unbeaten, while ASC Duisburg and OSC Potsdam continue their fight for playoff positioning.
