Barceloneta have added another European trophy to their collection after beating Marseille 10-8 in Barcelona to win the European Aquatics Men’s Super Cup.
The reigning Champions League winners built a four-goal advantage by half-time and, despite a strong Marseille fightback after the break, held on to secure their second Super Cup title and first since 2014.
Vince Vigvari led the scoring for Barceloneta with three goals, while Unai Biel and Bernat Sanahuja added two each.
Barceloneta made a flying start and Vigvari struck twice inside the opening two minutes as the hosts quickly established control.
Marseille reduced the deficit to one midway through the first quarter, but Barceloneta finished the period strongly with two further goals to lead 5-2.
The French side responded in the second quarter and pulled back to 5-4, with Nic Porter starting in goal against his former club.
Barceloneta then regained their momentum.
Sanahuja ended a seven-minute scoring drought before summer signing Francesco Di Fulvio found the net from distance. Alessandro Velotto added another as the Spanish champions closed the half with three unanswered goals and an 8-4 advantage.
Marseille changed goalkeeper at the start of the third period, with Petar Tesanovic replacing Porter, and the move helped inspire a comeback.
The Euro Cup holders shut Barceloneta out throughout the third quarter and scored twice themselves to reduce the deficit to 8-6 heading into the final eight minutes.
Alexandre Bouet then made it 8-7 with Marseille’s first possession of the fourth quarter.
Biel finally ended Barceloneta’s long scoring drought on the following attack, converting with the extra player to restore a two-goal cushion.
Ugo Crousillat answered almost immediately to make it 9-8, setting up a tense finish.
The decisive moment arrived with just over a minute remaining when Barceloneta were awarded a penalty.
Sanahuja converted to make it 10-8 before Unai Aguirre denied Bouet at the other end, effectively ending Marseille’s hopes of completing the comeback.
Barceloneta saw out the final seconds to add the Super Cup to a remarkable 2025/26 campaign that had already delivered the Spanish league, Spanish Cup and Champions League.
It is the club’s second Super Cup title, 12 years after their first triumph in 2014.
