Barceloneta’s domestic dominance continued as they sealed the Spanish League title for the 21st consecutive season and the 26th time overall.
The Spanish powerhouse suffered just one domestic defeat all season, a 15-14 loss to Sabadell in November during the eighth round of the regular season. But when the title was on the line, Barceloneta left little room for doubt.
After winning the opening game of the best-of-three final 17-13 at home, Barceloneta closed the series on Saturday with a commanding 16-11 away victory over Sabadell.
The visitors took control from the start, racing into a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Vince Vigvári then made it 6-1 with Barceloneta’s first possession of the second period.
Sabadell briefly reduced the gap to three goals midway through the quarter at 7-4, but Barceloneta responded immediately with a 3-0 run to take a comfortable 10-4 lead into halftime.
From there, the champions managed the game professionally, keeping Sabadell at distance throughout the second half and closing out another title-winning campaign.
Although Sabadell were beaten, the match carried special significance for the home side. It marked the final game in charge for head coach Quim Colet, who is retiring after eight years leading the club.
