Britt van den Dobbelsteen returns to De Zaan after trophy-laden Olympiacos season

Dutch international goalkeeper Britt van den Dobbelsteen is returning to ZV De Zaan after one season with Greek giants Olympiacos.

The 23-year-old left her boyhood club in the summer of 2025 to begin her first campaign abroad, but now heads home following an extraordinary year in which she collected four trophies with Olympiacos.

Van den Dobbelsteen helped the Piraeus club win the Greek Super Cup, Greek Cup and national championship before ending the season as a Champions League winner in Malta.

Her defining contribution came in the European final against FTC. Introduced specifically for the penalty shootout after the match finished 14-14, Van den Dobbelsteen saved all three of FTC’s attempts as Olympiacos claimed a dramatic 17-14 victory and secured the fourth European title in the club’s history.

She had also played an important role during the Greek championship finals. Van den Dobbelsteen saved two penalties, including the decisive attempt, as Olympiacos recovered from 10-6 down to defeat Vouliagmeni in a shootout in the opening match of the series. Olympiacos eventually won the final 3-1 to regain the domestic title.

The goalkeeper returns to familiar surroundings at De Zaan looking for more game time, where she developed from a young age and played for the senior side from the 2017/18 season until her move to Greece.

During her first spell, Van den Dobbelsteen won consecutive Dutch championships in 2023 and 2024, three Dutch Cups and the 2025 Euro Cup. That European success was one of the finest achievements in the club’s recent history and provided a memorable conclusion to her initial period in Zaandam.

Van den Dobbelsteen has also become an important member of the Netherlands national team. She won European Championship gold on home soil in Eindhoven in 2024 and added another continental title in Funchal in 2026. She also claimed bronze at the 2025 World Cup and helped the Netherlands finish fifth at that year’s World Championships in Singapore.

Her return gives De Zaan an elite goalkeeper who arrives home with further international experience and a remarkable collection of trophies from her season in Greece.
