Club Natacio Atletic-Barceloneta have strengthened their women’s team with the signing of USA attacker Maryn Dempsey from Tenerife Echeyde.
The American moves to Barcelona after spending two seasons in the Canary Islands, where she gained valuable experience in the Spanish Division de Honor and European competition.
Dempsey joined Tenerife in 2024 following four years with the University of California, Berkeley. The 24-year-old developed into an important player for the Cal Bears, earning All-MPSF recognition and helping the programme establish itself among the leading teams in NCAA water polo.
During the 2022/23 collegiate season, Dempsey finished third on the Cal roster with 34 goals, while also recording 23 assists, 24 steals and 16 earned exclusions. Her ability to contribute across several areas of the game should provide CNAB with greater versatility on the perimeter.
She has continued her development since moving to Spain, becoming a regular contributor for Tenerife in domestic and European competition. Dempsey scored twice during Tenerife’s victory over Chania in the 2026 Conference Cup qualification rounds and has also featured within the United States senior national-team programme.
The attacker previously represented the United States at youth level, winning gold medals at the 2017 and 2019 Youth Pan American Championships.
Her arrival represents another important addition for a CNAB women’s side looking to continue its progress in the Spanish top flight. Dempsey brings familiarity with the league, international experience and an attacking threat capable of strengthening the Barcelona club’s options ahead of the new season.
