European Aquatics announces Georgia agreement as €250,000 Champions League sponsorship emerges

European Aquatics has announced a new agreement with the Georgian Aquatic Sports National Federation, confirming that Georgia will host the European Water Polo Championships Division I in 2027.

The competition will serve as a qualification pathway for the Elite European Water Polo Championships in 2028, marking another step in Georgia’s growing involvement in international water polo.

The agreement was signed by European Aquatics President Antonio Jose Silva and Georgian Aquatic Sports National Federation President Dimitri Abdushelishvili, with the announcement following last week’s Black Sea Cup in Batumi.

European Aquatics described the agreement as the beginning of wider cooperation between the two organisations in aquatic sports development.

Meanwhile, sources close to Waterpolo 360 have indicated that a separate sponsorship agreement worth approximately €250,000, relating to the Men’s Water Polo Champions League, could also be announced in the near future.

According to information received by Waterpolo 360, discussions surrounding the potential investment took place around the Black Sea Cup in Batumi, where several leading European clubs competed between 15 and 18 October.

The identity of the prospective sponsor, the duration of the agreement and how the funding would be allocated have not yet been publicly confirmed. European Aquatics has not announced a Champions League sponsorship agreement of this value.

The developments follow a period of growing investment in Georgian water polo, including the expansion of A-Polo Sport Management and the organisation of the Black Sea Cup, which offered substantial financial prizes to participating teams.

If confirmed, the reported sponsorship would represent a further commercial investment in European club water polo, although its precise implications for the Champions League remain unclear.
