European Aquatics has announced a significant increase in prize money for its premier water polo club competitions for the 2025/26 season, following a landmark three-year sponsorship deal with Wood Nest Sports (WNS).
Prize Money Enhancements
The men’s Champions League winners will now receive €125,000, a substantial rise from the previous €50,000 awarded in earlier seasons . Additionally, the runners-up, as well as the third and fourth-placed teams from the Champions League Final Four, will also receive prize money, ensuring that all top four teams are financially rewarded.
In the men’s Euro Cup, the champions’ prize money has been doubled, and for the first time, the runners-up will also receive a financial reward.
For the women’s competitions, the Champions League winners will now receive €20,000, marking a significant increase. However, the prize money for the women’s Euro Cup remains unchanged.
Overall, the total prize money allocated for the 2025/26 season across all competitions will be €435,000.
Reduced Entry Fees
In addition to the prize money enhancements, European Aquatics has reduced entry fees for all club competitions. Notably, the men’s Champions League entry fee has been lowered to €20,000, making participation more accessible for clubs across Europe.
Analysis: A Strategic Investment in Water Polo’s Future
The increased financial incentives and reduced entry costs are strategic moves aimed at elevating the profile of water polo in Europe. By securing a sponsorship deal with WNS, European Aquatics is investing in the sport’s growth, aiming to attract more clubs and enhance competitiveness.
These changes are expected to encourage greater participation, improve the quality of competitions, and increase the sport’s visibility. By financially rewarding top-performing teams and easing the financial burden of entry fees, European Aquatics is fostering a more inclusive and competitive environment for water polo clubs.
As the 2025/26 season approaches, these developments signal a promising future for European water polo, with increased opportunities for clubs and athletes alike.
