FTC-Telekom has secured its place in Hungarian water polo history, claiming the 2025 national championship title in the women’s OB I league for the first time. With a 3-0 series sweep over defending champions UVSE, FTC completed a breakthrough season, ending years of frustration in previous finals.
First Title After Four Final Losses
The championship marks a significant milestone for FTC’s women’s program, which was established in 2017. Despite reaching the finals in three of the past four seasons, the team had never managed to overcome UVSE—until now.
After a strong domestic campaign and a Champions League Final Four appearance, FTC entered the finals with clear focus and momentum. They won the opening two games convincingly—11-7 at home in Komjádi and 9-6 away—putting themselves in position to seal the title on their third attempt.
Game 3: A Hard-Fought Decider
FTC started the third game with intensity, quickly building a 6-3 lead, largely thanks to a standout performance from Eleftheria Plevritu. However, UVSE responded with determination, equalising at 7-7 midway through the third quarter.
Just as in the earlier matches, FTC maintained their composure. They restored a three-goal lead and withstood late pressure from UVSE to close out the game and secure the title. The result brought an end to a run of four consecutive final defeats and delivered a historic first national championship for the club’s women’s team.
