Four teams remain unbeaten after the third round of the Hungarian Women’s League, with FTC, Dunaujvaros, BVSC and UVSE all maintaining perfect starts to the new season.
The closest contest of the weekend came in Szentes, where KSI claimed their first victory of the campaign with a dramatic 10-9 win.
Szentes led 4-3 after the opening quarter and held a 6-5 advantage at half-time, but KSI gradually worked their way back into the contest. The visitors levelled the game in the third period before edging ahead in the closing minutes.
With the score tied at 8-8 with three minutes remaining, KSI struck twice to establish the decisive advantage. Yelyzaveta Ashanina, who finished with four goals for Szentes, reduced the deficit in the final seconds but KSI held on for all three points.
Defending champions FTC continued their dominant start with a 25-5 victory away to Gyor.
FTC raced into a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter and were already 9-0 ahead before the hosts found their first goal. Greta Kurucz-Gurisatti led the scoring with five goals, while Evgeniya Borisova added four as FTC recorded another comfortable victory.
BVSC also made it three wins from three, although Szeged offered strong resistance during the opening half of their meeting.
The sides were level at 3-3 after the first quarter and Szeged briefly moved 4-3 ahead early in the second. BVSC responded to establish a 7-5 half-time advantage before taking control with a 6-1 third quarter.
Pien Gorter was outstanding for BVSC with seven goals in the 18-10 victory, while Sara Felkai scored four for Szeged.
Dunaujvaros maintained their perfect record with a 15-5 home victory over Eger.
Eger remained competitive through the opening half, trailing only 5-3 at the break, but Dunaujvaros pulled away after the interval, winning both of the final quarters 5-1. Csenge Jonkl scored four times, while Natasa Rybanska and Mandula Mihok each added three.
UVSE completed the quartet of unbeaten teams with a 22-10 victory against III Kerulet.
The hosts stayed in touch during the opening half and trailed 10-6 at the break, but UVSE’s greater depth told after the interval as the visitors won each of the final two quarters 6-2.
After three rounds, FTC lead the standings ahead of Dunaujvaros, BVSC and UVSE, with all four teams on nine points. Szeged, III Kerulet and KSI each have three, while Eger, Szentes and Gyor are still searching for their first points of the season.
