Italian superstar Francesco Di Fulvio is reportedly considering his options ahead of the 2026–27 season, with growing indications that the long-time Pro Recco star could leave the club this summer.
Sources around the European water polo market suggest that Atlètic-Barceloneta are among the clubs showing strong interest in the Italian international, should he decide to move on from Recco after more than a decade at the top of the club.
At this stage, no agreement has been confirmed, and discussions are believed to still be at an exploratory stage. However, the possibility of Di Fulvio leaving Recco is understood to be genuine, with the player reportedly evaluating his future carefully following another demanding season.
There has also been speculation linking Jug Dubrovnik with the 32-year-old, although those rumours currently appear less advanced, with Barceloneta viewed as the more realistic destination if a transfer materialises.
Di Fulvio remains one of the biggest names in world water polo. Since joining Pro Recco in 2014, he has helped the Italian giants dominate both domestically and internationally, winning nine Italian league titles, ten Italian Cups, four Champions League crowns, and multiple Super Cups.
Widely regarded as one of the sport’s defining players of the modern era, the Pescara-born attacker has also enjoyed enormous success with the Italian national team. He won World Championship gold with Italy in 2019, Olympic bronze at Rio 2016, and has collected several major international medals across World Championships, European Championships, and World Cup competitions.
Individually, Di Fulvio has received some of the sport’s highest honours, including the LEN Award in 2019, while also being recognised by many as one of the finest all-around players of his generation.
For Barceloneta, a move for Di Fulvio would represent another major statement of intent as the Spanish champions continue building a squad capable of challenging for the Champions League title once again.
