FTC, BVSC and Kaposvar reach Hungarian Cup Final Four

FTC, BVSC and Kaposvar have booked their places in the Hungarian Cup Final Four, while Vasas are firmly in control of the remaining quarter-final ahead of Sunday’s second leg against Szeged.

Defending champions FTC made the biggest statement of the weekend, comfortably eliminating Honved with two convincing victories. After winning 19-11 away from home on Friday, Nyeki Balazs’ side produced another dominant performance at the Komjadi on Saturday, winning 17-6.

Nagy Akos led FTC with four goals in the second leg, while Fekete Gergo added three. Soma Vogel also played his part with two penalty saves as FTC pulled away after the break and completed a 36-17 aggregate victory.

BVSC also progressed with victories in both legs against Semmelweis OSC. Varga Daniel’s team carried an advantage into Saturday’s return game at Szonyi ut and immediately strengthened their position with a 4-0 opening run.

OSC managed to reduce the deficit on several occasions, but BVSC remained in control and eventually won 18-13. Csacsovszky Erik, Jansik David and Szeghalmi Zsombor each scored three as BVSC secured another appearance in the Final Four.

The closest quarter-final came between Kaposvar and Szolnok. Kaposvar had earned an important 17-15 victory in Szolnok on Friday, but their two-goal cushion came under serious pressure in the return game.

Szolnok led 13-10 after three periods, which at that stage would have been enough to overturn the tie. Kaposvar responded with four consecutive goals in the final quarter, however, and although Szolnok eventually won the match 15-14, Kaposvar advanced 31-30 on aggregate. It sends the club into the Hungarian Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2013.

The fourth Final Four place is still to be decided. Vasas take a commanding nine-goal advantage to Szeged on Sunday after winning the first leg 16-7. Szeged were held scoreless throughout the first half as Vasas built a 6-0 lead before extending the margin after the break.

The Hungarian Cup Final Four is scheduled for September 12-13, with the semi-final pairings decided by a draw.
