Greece’s men’s national water polo team has named its preliminary training squad ahead of the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, which will take place from July 11 to 24.
The squad features a mixture of seasoned internationals and emerging domestic talents, with the core group made up of players from top Greek clubs Olympiacos, Vouliagmeni, Panathinaikos, Panionios, and Apollon Smyrnis. Notably, several players also compete abroad, including Stelios Argyropoulos-Kanakakis (Ferencváros, Hungary) and Dimitris Skoumpakis (Novi Beograd, Serbia).

Recent Form and Background
Greece will travel to Singapore with high expectations, following a series of strong performances on the international stage in recent years. The team claimed silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and came close to gold at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka. Although they finished fifth at last year’s European Championships and seventh at the Paris Olympics, the Greeks impressed earlier this year by securing second place at the World Cup, behind Spain.
The team will be looking to build on the tactical foundations laid over the past Olympic cycle, with continuity in key positions and a coach in Vlachos who has overseen some of the most successful campaigns in Greek water polo history.
