Greek internationals tipped for Panathinaikos double swoop

Panathinaikos are being linked with an ambitious double move for Greek national team duo Dimitrios Nikolaidis and Efstathios Kalogeropoulos, in what would represent a major statement of intent ahead of the new season.

The Athens club are understood to be exploring deals for both players as they look to strengthen their squad and close the gap on Greece’s traditional domestic powers.

Nikolaidis is currently with Olympiacos after joining the Piraeus side from Vouliagmeni in 2023. One of Greece’s most experienced center-forwards, he has built a strong reputation both domestically and abroad, with previous spells in Italy and Germany adding to his pedigree. A physically dominant presence at center, Nikolaidis would give Panathinaikos proven quality in one of the most important positions in the sport.

Kalogeropoulos, meanwhile, spent last season with Marseille after making the move from Vouliagmeni. Still in the early years of his prime, he is regarded as one of Greece’s standout modern players, capable of impacting both ends of the pool with his athleticism, work rate and versatility.

Both men have been key members of the Greek national team in recent seasons. They were part of the squad that secured bronze at the World Championships in Singapore, before helping Greece to another bronze medal at the 2026 European Championships in Belgrade.

Should Panathinaikos complete deals for both players, it would signal clear ambition from the club and instantly strengthen their roster with two established internationals. Nikolaidis would bring power and experience, while Kalogeropoulos would add mobility, depth and high-level pedigree.

No official confirmation has yet been made, but it is a rumour that will attract major attention across the Greek water polo scene in the weeks ahead.
