Hungary and Croatia met in a friendly match in Szeged on Wednesday evening as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the local club, with the game also serving as preparation for the 2026 European Championships in Belgrade. Croatia emerged with a narrow 14–13 victory in a competitive and well-paced encounter.
Croatia made a strong start, opening up a 3–0 lead and controlling much of the first half, although Hungary responded well and went into halftime level at 7–7. The hosts briefly led early in the third quarter, but Croatia produced a decisive spell, scoring three goals in quick succession to build a clear advantage. At one stage, the visitors held a four-goal lead early in the final period.
Hungary mounted a late comeback, reducing the deficit to a single goal in the closing minutes, but Croatia managed the final possessions to secure the win. Luka Bukić was the standout scorer for Croatia with five goals, while Hungary’s Krisztián Manhercz led the home side with four.
Despite the defeat, the match provided valuable minutes and insights for both teams as preparations continue, with Hungary and Croatia set to train together further before returning home.
