The Italian men’s and women’s national teams intensify preparations ahead of the World Cup Super Final in Sydney later this month
With the domestic water polo season nearing its conclusion, Italy’s national teams have begun the final stage of preparations for the World Cup Super Final, which will take place in Sydney from 22 to 26 July. Both the men’s national team, the Settebello, and the women’s national team, the Setterosa, are currently in training camps as they fine-tune their squads ahead of the prestigious international event.
The Settebello, led by head coach Alessandro Campagna, has gathered at the Federal Aquatic Centre in Ostia. After an initial training period, including joint sessions with the Georgian national team, Italy will travel to the United States for a training camp in San Francisco. The squad will play three warm-up matches against the USA on 8, 10 and 12 July before heading to Australia with the final 15-player roster.
Meanwhile, the Setterosa under Maurizio Mirarchi is continuing its preparation between Rome and Ostia. Players from domestic finalists SIS Roma and L’Ekipe Orizzonte joined the training camp following the conclusion of club commitments, allowing the coaching staff to work with the full group ahead of departure for Sydney.
Italy’s men’s team will begin its World Cup campaign on 23 July, facing Georgia in the quarter-finals, while the women’s team opens the tournament a day earlier against host nation Australia in the quarter-finals. Both sides will be aiming to challenge for medals as Italy looks to finish the international season on a high note.
