Head coach Alessandro Campagna has confirmed Italy’s 15-player roster for the upcoming World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
The “Settebello” will feature a slightly younger squad than at the Paris Olympics, with four players—Mario Del Basso, Filippo Ferrero, Francesco Cassia, and goalkeeper Tommaso Baggi Necchi—set to make their debuts at a major international tournament. None of the four have previously featured at the Olympics, World Championships, or European Championships.
Despite this injection of new talent, the team retains an experienced backbone. Francesco Di Fulvio, Edoardo Di Somma, Alessandro Velotto, and Nicholas Presciutti headline a group that blends continuity with opportunity. Gianmarco Nicosia, who has long served as Italy’s second-choice goalkeeper, will take on the No.1 role for the first time.
Two notable returns to the squad are Giacomo Cannella and Luca Damonte, both of whom missed the Olympics but contributed to Italy’s silver at the 2022 World Championships and bronze at the 2024 Europeans.
Compared to the Olympic squad, Italy will be without Marco Del Lungo, Gonzalo Echenique, Andrea Fondelli, and Vincenzo Renzuto. None of them participated in this summer’s preparations due to injuries or other reasons.
Italy will face Serbia, Romania, and South Africa in the group stage in Singapore.
