Jose Javier Bustos Sanchez returns to Barceloneta

Barceloneta have secured a major addition to their roster with the signing of Jose Javier Bustos Sanchez, one of Spain’s newly crowned world champions. The 31-year-old defender joins from Sabadell, returning to the club where he previously played earlier in his career.

Bustos brings a wealth of experience, having featured in over 100 matches in European competitions with Real Canoe, Barceloneta, Sant Andreu, and Sabadell. His arrival follows a standout year in which he captured gold medals at both the World Cup and the World Championships in Singapore with the Spanish national team.

At Barceloneta, Bustos will link up with his younger brother Alejandro, also a defender, as the club strengthens its defensive core. His signing means Barceloneta now have eight world champions in their ranks: the Bustos brothers, Unai Aguirre, Álvaro Granados, Biel Gomila, Alberto Munárriz, Bernat Sanahuja, and Roger Tahull. The squad also features two silver medalists from Singapore, Vince Vigvári and Gergely Burian.

Bustos is the latest in a string of high-profile moves for Barceloneta, who have already announced the arrivals of Gonzalo Echenique and Alessandro Velotto. The upcoming season will also mark a new chapter for the Spanish champions under recently appointed head coach Fran Fernández.
