Overview of Day Two in the Women’s Champions League

In an exciting day two of the Women’s Champions League, Italian clubs showcased remarkable performances. All three Italian teams – Padova, Orizzonte, and Roma – clinched crucial victories, solidifying their positions in the competition. Alongside the Italians, last season’s top contenders, including Sabadell, Olympiacos, and Sant Andreu, each secured three points. However, it was a frustrating outing for the two Dutch teams, Polar Bears and Donk, who, despite thrilling matches and scoring 13 goals each, left empty-handed.

Group A

Astralpool Sabadell (ESP) 10-7 CN Terrassa (ESP)
Vouliagmeni NC (GRE) 9-8 Dunaujvarosi Foiskola (HUN)

Defending champions Sabadell were unstoppable, setting the pace with a strong 6-0 run by halftime. This surge left their Spanish counterparts, Terrassa, unable to mount a comeback. Despite easing up after reaching 9-2, Sabadell’s lead was never truly threatened.

Vouliagmeni and Dunaujvaros engaged in an evenly matched battle, with each of the first three quarters ending in a 2-2 draw. It wasn’t until the final quarter that Vouliagmeni managed to break through with quick consecutive goals, ultimately securing a 9-8 victory.

Group B

Assolim CN Mataro (ESP) 11-13 FTC-Telekom (HUN)
Antenore Plebiscito Padova (ITA) 15-13 Polar Bears (NED)

FTC-Telekom is proving to be a formidable force in this season’s Champions League. After an impressive victory over Padova on day one, they edged out last season’s Final Four team Mataro with a series of well-timed plays, including a pivotal two-goal gap late in the match.

In a high-energy clash, the Dutch side Polar Bears made a strong opening against Padova with a 0-3 run. However, Padova fought back, netting seven goals in the second quarter. Despite Polar Bears’ relentless offense, Padova managed to pull ahead in the final minutes, securing a 15-13 victory.

Group C

Olympiacos Piraeus (GRE) 17-13 GZC Donk (NED)
SIS Roma (ITA) 11-9 Alimos NAC Betsson (GRE)

Dutch team GZC Donk’s match against Olympiacos was another thriller. Despite being outscored early on, Donk fought hard to close the gap, trailing by just one goal at one point in the second quarter. However, Olympiacos’ quick responses kept the Dutch side from gaining any momentum, leading to a 17-13 win for the Greeks.

In an intense face-off between SIS Roma and Alimos, defense was key. Roma held a narrow 4-3 lead going into halftime, only to see the offenses surge in the second half. A late penalty conversion by Izabella Chiappini sealed an 11-9 win for Roma.

Group D

UVSE-Helia D (HUN) 10-13 Sant Andreu (ESP)
BVSC-Manna ABC (HUN) 12-16 Orizzonte Catania (ITA)

The Hungarians had a challenging day, with both UVSE and BVSC suffering tough losses at home. UVSE started strong, leading 4-1, but Sant Andreu rallied in the second half, outscoring the home team with a 0-5 run in the final two quarters.

Orizzonte took control early against BVSC and maintained their lead throughout the game. Bronte Halligan was the standout for the Italians with six goals, helping Orizzonte secure a decisive 16-12 victory.
