Primorac take a point at Olympiacos; Marseille hold off Jadran Herceg Novi – Champions League review

The first games in Group C and Group D of the champions league have been played.

Primorac Kotor delivered the night’s biggest surprise by forcing a shootout against Olympiacos in Piraeus. The Montenegrins came close to a victory but had to settle for a point, still a strong start for them.

In Group D, Keio CN Sabadell secured a crucial away win against Savona. Meanwhile, in Group C, Barceloneta dominated Vasas, and Marseille edged past Jadran mHerceg Novi in a closely contested match.

Group C Results

  • Zodiac CNA Barceloneta (ESP) 18-7 Vasas-Plaket (HUN)
  • CN Marseille (FRA) 13-11 Jadran mHerceg Novi (MNE)

Barceloneta overwhelmed Vasas, taking a commanding 9-2 lead by halftime and cruising to an 18-7 victory. Vasas, returning to the Champions League, struggled to keep up, with goalie Marton Levai preventing an even bigger defeat.

The match between Marseille and Jadran was fiercely competitive. Marseille led 7-5 before a red card for Vladan Spaic allowed Jadran to draw level. Marseille regained control, with key goals from Thomas Vernoux and Andrija Prlainovic, ultimately winning 13-11 as Jadran ran out of steam.

Group D Results

  • Olympiacos Piraeus (GRE) 12-12 (8-7P) Primorac Kotor (MNE)
  • RN Savona (ITA) 10-12 KEIO CN Sabadell (ESP)

Primorac shocked Olympiacos with a strong start, holding the lead multiple times before the game went to penalties. Olympiacos eventually won the shootout after a missed opportunity by Primorac to win the match.

Sabadell claimed a hard-fought victory against Savona. After a tight first half, Sabadell pulled ahead in the third quarter and held off the Italians for a 12-10 win, securing an important away victory in Group D.
