Pro Recco have signed Italy international Tommaso Gianazza from Brescia as the Italian champions continue to reshape their squad for the 2026-27 season.
The left-handed centre-forward becomes Recco’s third confirmed arrival of the summer, following the returns of Hungarian attacker Gergo Zalanki and Croatia captain Marko Bijac.
Gianazza, who turns 24 this month, developed in the youth systems of AMGA Sport Legnano and Varese Olona before moving to Brescia, where he established himself in Serie A1 and broke into the Italian national team.
He represented Italy at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the 2025 World Championships and the 2026 European Championship, where the Settebello finished fourth. Gianazza also won silver with Italy at the 2021 World Under-20 Championship.
His arrival provides a younger option at centre-forward following the departure of Slovakia international Lukas Durik, who leaves after two seasons with the club.
Durik won two Italian league titles, two Coppa Italia trophies and the Euro Cup during his time with Recco. He is expected to continue his career with Jadran Herceg Novi.
Gianazza said joining Recco represented a significant step in his career, describing the move as an opportunity to compete for every available trophy.
The signing is part of a wider summer transition for Sandro Sukno’s side. Zalanki has returned after two seasons with Olympiacos, while Bijac is back at the club five years after helping Recco win the Champions League in 2021.
There have also been several significant departures. Long-serving captain Francesco Di Fulvio has left after 12 years and is expected to join Barceloneta, while Australian attacker Luke Pavillard has moved to Mladost Zagreb.
Goalkeeper Tommaso Negri has stepped away from the playing squad to take up a management role, with Lorenzo Demarchi also leaving the Italian champions.
Despite those changes, Recco’s recruitment shows their intention to remain at the top of Italian water polo and challenge again for the Champions League. Gianazza adds youth, physical presence and another Italian international to a squad already containing several members of the Settebello.
