Sant Andreu edge title rivals as Spanish league race tightens

League leaders CN Sant Andreu moved a step closer to top spot in the regular season after a dramatic 12-11 win over second-placed CN Mataró on Matchday 20 of the División de Honor Femenina.

With only three rounds remaining, Sant Andreu now hold a four-point advantage over their closest challengers, putting themselves firmly in control of the title race.

In the headline clash of the weekend, Sant Andreu looked set for a more comfortable afternoon when they opened a 12-9 lead with five minutes to play. But Mataró responded strongly, cutting the deficit to one and creating one final chance with five seconds left. Their late effort struck the crossbar, allowing the hosts to celebrate a huge victory.

It was a high-level encounter between two of Spain’s strongest sides, and one that could prove decisive in determining final regular season standings.

Mediterrani claim narrow win

CE Mediterrani also secured an important result, edging Real Canoe NC 10-9 in another tight contest.

The Barcelona side are chasing a European playoff place and were pushed all the way by a Real Canoe team that has shown clear improvement in the second half of the campaign. After three quarters the scores were locked at 7-7, before Mediterrani found enough in the closing stages to secure the points.

CNAB dominate Barcelona derby

In another Barcelona meeting, CN Atlètic-Barceloneta produced a commanding display to defeat UE Horta 22-8.

CNAB took control early and led 10-4 by half-time, leaving the struggling hosts with too much to do. The win strengthens Barceloneta’s position near the top end of the table, while Horta remain in relegation trouble.

Sant Feliu finish strong

CN Sant Feliu defeated Santa Cruz Tenerife Echeyde 17-13 after a thrilling attacking contest featuring 30 goals.

The visitors led 13-12 heading into the final quarter and were dreaming of valuable survival points, but Sant Feliu produced a devastating 5-0 closing period to turn the match around.

Earlier in the round, CN Sabadell had already beaten CN Terrassa 12-8, while the meeting between CD WP Iruña 9802 and EPlus Catalunya has been rescheduled for May 10.
