Matchday eight of the Women’s Serie A1 delivered the most dramatic round of the season so far. The headline clash in Rome lived up to expectations, producing twenty-nine goals and a statement victory for SIS Roma, who defeated Rapallo 16–13 to climb to the top of the table.
Roma started aggressively, jumping to a 2–0 lead before Rapallo responded with authority. Bianconi’s goal pushed the visitors ahead 7–4 midway through the second period, and when Sesena stopped a penalty from Bakoc that could have created a four-goal gap, the momentum shifted. From there, Roma’s attack ignited: Zaplatina struck four times while Ranalli delivered a five-goal performance, including four penalties, guiding the hosts through a dominant 6–2 third quarter. Rapallo fought to stay alive through Giustini, whose five goals brought the visitors back within one at 13–14 in the final minute, but late finishes from Papi and Zaplatina sealed the win. Rapallo’s hopes faded further as Marcialis, Bianconi, and Vukovic all exited on three fouls.
In Recco, Smile Cosenza clinched a crucial 14–13 victory over Bogliasco after penalties. The match had finished 10–10 in regulation, with Bogliasco storming back from 5–9 down in the third quarter. The shootout went to sudden death, where Hardy missed for the home side and Morrone converted for Cosenza. Mejer and Morrone both scored twice in regular play, pushing their tallies to 22 and 21 goals this season—still trailing league leader Sofia Giustini, now on 26.
Ekipe Orizzonte produced a convincing 15–9 win over Trieste in Catania, drawing level with Cosenza in third place and still carrying a game in hand. Claudia Marletta and Trieste’s Malia Allen shared top-scorer honours with four goals each. The match also marked the debut of 2011-born Marta Lorefice, a notable moment for the Italian champions’ pathway programme.
Saturday’s fixtures saw two away victories. Nautilus Civitavecchia celebrated their first top-flight win with a 15–10 success over fellow newcomers Locatelli Genova, overturning a 5–3 halftime deficit through a strong second-half push. Lombella and Bianchi netted hat-tricks for Nautilus. Padova also impressed, beating Brizz Nuoto 19–10 in Catania. After a close first half, Posterivo’s team broke the match open with seven unanswered goals across the third and fourth quarters, led by Bacelle’s four goals.
