Pallanuoto Trieste have made their first move ahead of the 2025/26 Serie A1 season, signing Hungarian center-forward Bence Szabó on a one-year deal. The 21-year-old left-hander arrives from San Jose State University in California, where he stood out as a physical and consistent performer, helping his team to a West Coast Conference title and earning multiple individual honors.
Originally from Budapest, Szabó came through the youth systems at UVSE and Ferencváros, winning national age-group titles and representing Hungary at youth level before moving to the U.S. in 2021.
“This is a big opportunity for me,” Szabó said. “I’m motivated and ready to give my all—on matchday, in training, and beyond. I want to wear the Trieste cap with pride.”
Trieste coach Maurizio Mirarchi praised Szabó’s strength and experience:
“He’s young, physically strong, technically skilled, and brings valuable experience from the U.S. system.”
General manager Andrea Brazzatti added:
“This is the first move in our summer recruitment. Bence showed ambition from the start—his presence will be felt.”
Trieste’s mercato is officially underway.
