Alexia Kammenou leaves the Greek national team

The Greek Swimming Federation has opted not to renew the contract of the women’s national team head coach, Alexia Kammenou.

Since taking over in April 2021, Kammenou led the team through six major international competitions, achieving significant results, including a silver medal at the 2022 Women’s European Championships in Split and a bronze at the 2024 European Championships in Eindhoven.

Under her leadership, Greece returned to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2008, securing qualification for the Paris 2024 Games. Kammenou also coached the team to fourth place at the 2024 World Championships in Doha, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.

In junior competitions, her tenure saw silver medals at both the 2021 World Junior Championships in Netanya and the 2021 European Junior Championships in Šibenik.

Despite these accomplishments, the Greek Swimming Federation has decided to seek new leadership for the women’s national team. The decision marks the end of Kammenou’s three-year stint, during which she worked closely with assistant coach Tasos Pyrpyris.

The Federation is expected to announce her successor in the near future.
