Barcelona and Athens will host the 2026 European Aquatics Water Polo Super Cups, bringing together the reigning Champions League and Euro Cup winners in the first major European club clashes of the new season.
The men’s Super Cup will take place in Barcelona on 30 September, with Champions League winners Zodiac CNAB hosting French Euro Cup champions CN Marseille.
Barceloneta earned their place after a dramatic Champions League triumph in Malta, where they defeated defending champions FTC-Telekom in the semi-finals before overcoming Recco 17-16 in a spectacular final.
The victory secured a second Champions League title for the Spanish club and completed a remarkable European campaign for Fran Fernandez’s side.
Marseille will travel to Barcelona after claiming the Euro Cup for the second time in their history. The French side defeated Jadran Split 33-32 on aggregate in a closely fought two-legged final, adding the 2026 title to their previous success in 2019.
Three days later, attention will switch to Athens for the women’s Super Cup on 3 October.
Olympiacos will host EPLUS CN Catalunya after both clubs lifted European trophies last season.
The Greek giants secured their fourth Champions League crown following another successful Final Four campaign in Malta. Olympiacos defeated FTC-Telekom in a penalty shootout in the final, continuing a remarkable period of consistency in Europe that has seen the club reach seven Champions League finals across the last 11 editions.
Catalunya, meanwhile, will enter the Super Cup as Euro Cup champions after securing the first European trophy in the club’s history.
The Spanish side defeated Zodiac CNAB in both legs of the final, completing a 27-20 aggregate victory to earn their place against the European champions.
Both Super Cup matches will be hosted by the respective Champions League winners, in accordance with European Aquatics club competition regulations and following requests from the clubs to stage the events.
The two fixtures will bring together four reigning European champions as the continental club season gets underway.
