EPlus CN Catalunya have been crowned women’s Euro Cup champions after completing a commanding two-legged final victory over Zodiac CNAB in Barcelona.
Javier Belmonte’s side arrived at the second leg with a five-goal advantage from the opening match and finished the job in style, winning 13-11 on the night and 27-20 on aggregate to secure the club’s first-ever European title.
CNAB began brightly in front of a loud home crowd, with Alejandra Aznar converting an early penalty before Clara Diaz struck on extra player to cut the aggregate deficit to three. But Catalunya responded with remarkable composure.
Great Britain’s Toula Falvey sparked the comeback from centre, scoring twice in quick succession before Julia Frigola Navarro, Lucia Gomez and Emmerson Houghton helped Catalunya surge into a 5-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
From there, the visitors never looked back. Falvey completed a hat-trick before half-time, while Ruth Arino added two important goals in the third period as Catalunya stretched their lead and effectively ended the contest.
CNAB battled until the end, but Laura Aarts produced another standout performance in goal, including a penalty save, as Catalunya celebrated a historic European triumph.
