Dmitrii Kholod could be set for a move to Romania, with the Russian-born Montenegro international linked with a transfer from Jadran Herceg Novi to CSM Oradea.
The 34-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Jadran, where he became one of the club’s standout players and an important figure in their domestic and European campaigns. His possible departure would represent a significant loss for the Montenegrin side, while Oradea would be adding a highly experienced and proven player to their squad.
Kholod joined Jadran in 2023 after previously representing Russia at international level. Last year, World Aquatics approved the Water Polo Federation of Montenegro’s request for him to represent Montenegro, following changes to sports nationality regulations.
Under the updated rules, the waiting period between representing a former country and a new one was shortened to one year, after previously being set at three years between 2023 and 2025. Kholod had not played for Russia since the 2021 Olympic Qualification Tournament, and had been living in Montenegro since joining Jadran.
With all requirements met, he became eligible for Montenegro and was officially considered a candidate for the national team ahead of the World Championships, having already joined the squad during summer preparations.
Now, after establishing himself as one of Jadran’s key players, Kholod appears to be on the move again, with CSM Oradea emerging as his likely next destination.
For Oradea, the signing would bring experience, physicality and international pedigree to a side that has continued to build its presence in European competition. For Jadran, it would mark the end of an important chapter for a player who made a strong impact in Herceg Novi.
