Ferencváros claim 25th Hungarian Cup after hard-fought battle with Honvéd

Ferencváros have once again underlined their dominance in domestic competition, securing their 25th Hungarian Cup title and extending their streak to eight consecutive wins since 2018.

The reigning European champions entered the Final Four in Budapest as favourites, but they were pushed all the way in a gripping final against Honvéd, eventually prevailing 17:15.

Semifinals: Ferencváros and Honvéd set up a Budapest final

Ferencváros opened their Final Four campaign with a 19:11 victory over BVSC, a repeat of last season’s final. A blistering 7:3 first quarter gave “Fradi” full control, with Stylianos Argyropoulos unstoppable on six goals.

In the other semifinal, Honvéd shocked Szolnok in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 18:17. Szolnok had led 11:7 in the third period, but Honvéd fought back. New signing Lazar Vicković equalised at 13:13 in the final minute, before stepping up again in the shootout. Vicković finished with five goals, while Gergo Kovacs netted six for Szolnok in vain.

Final: Mandic and Manhercz lead Fradi past Honvéd

The final started brightly for Honvéd, who stunned Ferencváros by leading 5:3 after the first quarter. But the champions hit back immediately—Dusan Mandic (2) and Marton Manhercz scored three goals in 68 seconds to flip the score to 6:5.

Honvéd stayed in touch, equalising three times in the second period, before Ferencváros carved out a narrow 10:9 lead at half-time.

The turning point came in the third quarter. After Honvéd’s coach Márton Szívós was ejected for protesting, Fradi launched a decisive 3:0 run—again led by Mandic and Manhercz—to move 15:11 ahead.

Honvéd battled bravely, with Nikola Moskov prolific on six goals, but Ferencváros’ firepower told. Mandic struck his sixth, and Szilárd Jansik extended the gap to 17:13 midway through the fourth. Honvéd’s late push, backed by strong goalkeeping from Kristóf Csoma (12 saves), reduced the margin, but Ferencváros held firm for their eighth consecutive Hungarian Cup.
