Ferencváros have officially been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Hungarian Men’s Water Polo League, sealing their 27th national title—a historic first in the 101-year history of the competition. With this triumph, Fradi pull ahead of Újpest, who remain on 26 titles, and mark their fourth consecutive championship victory.
A Dominant Display in the Final
The third and final match of the best-of-five playoff series left no room for doubt. Ferencváros crushed Vasas with a staggering 22:5 victory, completing a perfect domestic season. While the opening two matches of the series were closely contested (with two-goal margins), the decider showcased Ferencváros’ superior quality and depth.
Vasas initially showed promise, taking a 1:0 lead through Lakatos. But Ferencváros quickly took control—Argyropoulos equalised, and two goals from Vendel Vigvári turned the tide. The first period ended 4:3 in Ferencváros’ favour, but it was the second quarter that proved decisive. Fradi’s defense, anchored by national team goalkeeper Soma Vogel, held Vasas scoreless, while their attackers netted six unanswered goals to lead 10:3 at halftime.
A Historic Win
By the third period, Ferencváros had full command of the game. Szilárd Jansik made it 11:3, and although Djurdjic briefly broke Vasas’ scoring drought, it did little to alter the match’s trajectory. Fradi closed the game with an explosive final quarter, outscoring Vasas 8:1.
The 17-goal margin reflected Ferencváros’ ruthless efficiency and underlined their status as the dominant force in Hungarian water polo.
