FTC build toward Los Angeles with seven-player extension

In a powerful show of stability and ambition, Champions League holders FTC-Telekom Waterpolo have extended the contracts of seven key Hungarian players through to the summer of 2028 — aligning the club’s core with the road to the Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Fekete Gergő, Jansik Szilárd, Manhercz Krisztián, Molnár Erik, Vámos Márton, Vigvári Vendel and Vismeg Zsombor have all committed their futures to the green-and-whites, ensuring continuity at both domestic and European level.

“Together until Los Angeles”

“Our goal was to keep the Hungarian core of the team together until the Los Angeles Olympics,” said executive vice president Nyíri Zoltán after confirming the extensions.

The move means ten prominent members of the Hungarian national team are now tied to Ferencváros until 2028. Earlier, captain Vogel Soma, along with rising talents Nagy Ákos and Varga Vince, had already signed long-term deals.

Nyíri emphasised that maintaining cohesion at club level directly benefits the national team:

“We hope that by sustaining our success at club level, we can also support the national team — providing players who know each other well, who have strong chemistry, and who form a united group. That was the guiding principle behind these renewals.”

Remarkably, negotiations with the seven players reportedly took just thirty minutes — a sign of alignment between club and squad.

A golden generation secured

All seven have already won the Champions League, European Super Cup, Hungarian Championship and Hungarian Cup with the club.

  • Jansik Szilárd, one of the most decorated athletes in FTC history with 24 trophies, enters his 12th season at the club.
  • Vámos Márton, signed in 2017, returned from Olympiacos in 2024 and remains a central attacking force.
  • Manhercz Krisztián also came back after a spell abroad, helping lead the team to last season’s historic Champions League title defence.
  • Fekete Gergő and Vigvári Vendel joined in 2020, with Molnár Erik arriving a year later — all now world champions and World/European Championship medallists.
  • Vismeg Zsombor, who recently broke into the national team setup, is in his second season in Népliget.

Stability as the secret

Head coach Nyéki Balázs, himself contracted until 2028 and fresh from being named Coach of the Year, underlined that continuity is at the heart of Ferencváros’ dominance.

“It’s relatively rare in a team’s life to have so few changes over so many years. We are extremely satisfied with the players’ attitude and performance — it would be foolish to change. We’ve proven that integrating one young player at a time is enough to maintain the level required of the world’s best team.”

Since 2023, FTC have won every major trophy available, including back-to-back Champions League titles — a historic achievement in the modern era.

Eyes on a third star

The objective now is clear: a third consecutive Champions League crown and, longer term, a third star on the club crest — potentially achieved in 2028, just before the Olympic Games.

By locking down its Hungarian spine through to Los Angeles, Ferencváros are not merely planning for the future — they are attempting to define an era.
