In a twist to this season’s transfer drama, Olympiacos have officially announced the return of Konstantinos Kakaris, one of Europe’s top water polo talents. The 25-year-old center-forward had been widely expected to join Croatian side Jug Dubrovnik, but has instead opted for a comeback with his former club in Greece.
Kakaris is no stranger to success with Olympiacos, having previously played for the club between 2018 and 2021. During that period, he dominated the domestic scene, helping the team to three consecutive league and cup doubles, along with two Super Cup victories. His outstanding performances cemented his reputation as one of the best players in Europe.
Following his initial stint in Greece, Kakaris moved to Jug Dubrovnik, where he continued to collect silverware. Over two seasons (2021-2023), he won the Croatian Championship, two national cups, and an Adriatic League title, further solidifying his status as a world-class player.
In the summer of 2023, Kakaris made the jump to Pro Recco, joining the Italian powerhouse. His time in Italy was short but impactful, as he helped secure the Italian league title and competed in the prestigious LEN Champions League Final Four.
Internationally, Kakaris has been a key figure for the Greek national team, contributing to their success on the global stage. He was instrumental in securing a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships and a bronze at the 2022 edition.
Now, with his return to Olympiacos, Kakaris is set to bring his wealth of experience and winning mentality back to the club, as they aim for more domestic and European glory in the upcoming seasons.
