Alvaro Granados returns to Barceloneta

After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that Alvaro Granados will be rejoining Barceloneta for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The 25-year-old Spanish star, who parted ways with Novi Beograd earlier this summer, had originally agreed to a deal with Pro Recco. However, the financial troubles plaguing the Italian club, which have resulted in a liquidation process, have prompted many of their top players to seek new opportunities. Granados has now decided to return to his former club in Spain.

Before choosing Recco, Granados was reportedly approached by Ferencvaros, the reigning Champions League titleholders. Although he initially opted for Recco, his plans shifted when the Italian club’s financial instability made it impossible for him to stay. While there were rumors that Ferencvaros could still be a fallback option, Granados quickly dismissed this possibility and opted for a return to Barceloneta.

Granados rejoins a Barceloneta team where he previously celebrated significant success, capturing five league titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, and three Spanish Super Cups. His return is a timely boost for the squad, especially after recent departures, including Marc Larumbe to Marseille and Miguel de Toro to Ferencvaros. Nevertheless, the team has also strengthened its ranks, adding new talents such as Vince Vigvari, Marc Valls, Biel Gomila, and Gergely Burian, after bidding farewell to Niko Paul and Luke Pavillard.

Granados’ return signals a new chapter for Barceloneta as they look to regain dominance in both domestic and international competitions.
