Maica Garcia has officially signed for CN Sant Andreu, completing one of the biggest moves of the summer following her departure from CN Sabadell.
Sant Andreu confirmed the arrival of the 35-year-old Spanish centre-forward on Monday afternoon, bringing Garcia to Pere Serrat as a major figure in the club’s significantly rebuilt squad for the 2026/27 season.
The move comes on the same day Garcia publicly confirmed the end of her extraordinary association with Sabadell, the club she first joined as a child and represented throughout her senior career.
Garcia’s departure had become one of the major stories of the Spanish summer after uncertainty surrounding her future with Sabadell. She had previously made clear her intention to return to club competition this season following time away from the game, telling AS in June that she was preparing to be ready for the new campaign in September.
Now her return will come in the colours of one of Sabadell’s biggest domestic rivals.
Sant Andreu themselves are entering a very different era. After the breakup of much of the squad that delivered historic success for the Barcelona club, Marc Comas is overseeing an almost completely new-look team.
Garcia becomes the headline addition to a recruitment drive that has also included Helena Dalmases, Sarah Buis, Eve Weston, Karen de Miranda, Mariona Viladot and several young Spanish players. Only Noemi Gomez and Robin Jutte remain from last season’s squad, according to Mundo Deportivo.
For Sant Andreu, the arrival of one of the most decorated centre-forwards in the history of women’s water polo provides experience and leadership to an otherwise youthful project.
Garcia is an Olympic, world and European champion with Spain and has won virtually every major honour available at club level during her career with Sabadell.
After more than three decades associated with one club, however, the next chapter of Maica Garcia’s career will now begin at Pere Serrat.
