VK Novi Beograd have confirmed the appointment of Zoran Bajić as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season, ending weeks of speculation around who would take charge of the European powerhouse.
The Serbian side, recent finalists in the Champions League, announced the news via their official channels as they look to build on their status as one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Bajić arrives after a surprising departure from Mladost Zagreb earlier this year. Despite delivering consistent results, his exit raised eyebrows across the regional water polo scene. His appointment in Belgrade now offers a swift return to the top level.
A former goalkeeper for Mladost, Bajić has built a strong coaching résumé since moving into professional coaching in 2015. He took over as head coach in 2017 and enjoyed a highly successful spell, winning the Croatian Championship, two national cups, and two regional league titles over a six-year period.
Even after being replaced in 2023, Bajić remained closely involved at the club, working with both junior and senior women’s teams, adding another national title to his record. On the international stage, he also guided Croatia’s U19 team to European Championship gold, underlining his pedigree in developing elite talent.
This past season, he led Mladost to a domestic cup victory and a place in the Champions League Top 8, reinforcing his reputation as one of the region’s most accomplished coaches.
