Primorac Kotor linked with move for Slobodan Nikic as head coach

VK Primorac Kotor are reportedly interested in appointing Slobodan Nikic as their next head coach, according to several sources.

The 2016 Olympic champion with Serbia men’s national water polo team is understood to be a name admired in Kotor as the club considers its options for the future.

Nikic most recently coached Vasas SC, taking charge in 2021 and leading the Budapest side through a competitive spell that included success in Europe. He left the head coaching role during the middle of the current season but remained with the club as sporting director.

Now, the decorated Serbian could be set for a return to the bench.

As a player, Nikic enjoyed one of the most successful careers of his generation. A dominant centre-forward, he represented clubs including VK Partizan, VK Jadran Herceg Novi, Olympiacos CFP, Pro Recco and Ferencvárosi TC.

Internationally, he was a cornerstone of Serbia’s golden era, winning Olympic gold in 2016 Summer Olympics, alongside multiple World and European titles.

For Primorac, an appointment of Nikic’s stature would represent a major statement as the club looks to re-establish itself among the leading forces in Montenegro and Europe. His winning pedigree, regional knowledge and recent coaching experience in Hungary would make him an attractive candidate.

No official agreement has been confirmed at this stage, but the situation is one to watch closely as summer planning continues in Kotor.
