Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni have secured their spots in the final of the 2025 Greek Men’s Water Polo Championship, continuing their long-standing rivalry on the national stage.
While both teams are familiar faces in the title decider, this season brought a slight twist—Vouliagmeni did not enter the playoffs from second place, as they have in previous years. Olympiacos, true to form, topped the regular season standings and will enjoy home advantage in the best-of-five finals series.
Olympiacos Cruise Past Apollon
Olympiacos comfortably defeated Apollon Smyrnis in straight games to advance from the semifinals.
In the first match, played at home, the reigning champions had a slow start and trailed 1:3 in the opening quarter. However, they quickly regrouped, outscoring Apollon in the remaining periods to seal a 13:8 win.
The second encounter in Smyrni was a much more dominant performance from Olympiacos. By halftime, they had built a commanding 10:5 lead. A relentless third quarter saw them extend the margin to 17:6. Although Apollon managed to reduce the gap slightly in the final minutes, Olympiacos sealed the series with a resounding 21:12 victory.
Vouliagmeni Edge Panathinaikos in Two Tight Contests
The semifinal series between Panathinaikos and Vouliagmeni was far more competitive.
In the opening game in Athens, Vouliagmeni snatched a dramatic 10:9 win, courtesy of a last-second goal from Kalogeropoulos with just two seconds left on the clock.
The second game saw Panathinaikos take a 6:4 lead late in the third quarter. But Vouliagmeni turned the tide with a resolute defensive display and a dominant fourth quarter, winning 10:7 to complete the sweep.
