Olympiacos have signed Hungary international Kata Hajdu from UVSE as the European champions begin strengthening their squad for the 2026-27 season.
The 20-year-old attacker arrives in Piraeus after spending seven seasons with UVSE, where she developed into one of the most highly rated young players in European water polo.
Hajdu joins an Olympiacos side that completed a clean sweep of the major trophies last season. Giorgos Doskas’ team won the Greek league and cup before defeating FTC in a penalty shootout to lift the Champions League in Malta.
Her arrival is therefore not part of a major rebuild, but an attempt to add further quality to a team already setting the standard domestically and in Europe.
Hajdu is known for her powerful shooting and ability to score from the perimeter. She was among UVSE’s leading attacking players during their 2025-26 Champions League campaign and scored six times against Alimos as the Hungarian club secured a place in the quarter-finals.
She also arrives with first-hand experience of facing her new team. UVSE were the only side to defeat Olympiacos during the Champions League group stage last season, edging a dramatic meeting in Budapest 16-15.
Despite her age, Hajdu has already established herself with the Hungarian national team. She helped Hungary win silver at the 2026 European Championship in Funchal, adding to the World Championship and World Cup silver medals she collected in 2025.
Her youth career was equally successful, including gold at the 2023 World Under-20 Championship and the European junior title in the same year.
At club level, Hajdu won the 2023 Euro Cup with UVSE, as well as three Hungarian league titles and two domestic cups. Her move to Greece will be the first of her senior career outside Hungary.
“I am really excited to join Olympiacos,” Hajdu said. “It is a huge privilege to be part of this team.
“Olympiacos are one of the biggest and most successful clubs in water polo. I have many goals, but my greatest ambition is to win the Champions League and the Greek championship.”
Having conquered both competitions last season, Olympiacos will now expect Hajdu to help them defend those titles as they target another dominant campaign.
