Montenegrin coach Petar has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Novi Beograd, one of Europe’s most ambitious water polo clubs and runners-up in last season’s Champions League.
From Athens to Belgrade
Radanović arrives in the Serbian capital after a season in Greece, where he managed Apollon Smyrnis. Under his leadership, the Athens-based side secured a fourth-place finish in the Greek championship and reached the final of the Greek Cup, ultimately falling to Olympiacos. His spell in Athens marked his first coaching role outside of Montenegro.
Proven Success at Jadran Herceg Novi
Prior to his time in Greece, Radanović spent five highly successful seasons as head coach of Jadran Herceg Novi, a club long considered the backbone of Montenegrin water polo. During his tenure, he guided Jadran to three Montenegrin Championship titles and four National Cup victories. He also led the team to regular appearances in European competitions, including the LEN Champions League and Euro Cup, helping to maintain the club’s strong reputation on the continental stage.
Background in Youth Development
In addition to his club achievements, Radanović is well known for his work with youth national teams. He has coached Montenegro’s junior and cadet squads at European and World Championships, leaving a lasting mark on the development of young talent within the country. His most notable achievement at youth level includes winning the European U17 Championship in Malta in 2017.
A New Chapter for Novi Beograd
Novi Beograd, founded in 2015, has rapidly become a powerhouse in both Serbian and European water polo. The team has reached three consecutive LEN Champions League finals, most recently falling to FTC-Telekom in the 2025 final earlier this month. The club’s ambitions remain high, and the appointment of Radanović signals a continued push to convert near-successes into major titles.
Looking Ahead
Radanović’s arrival in Belgrade brings with it high expectations. He will be tasked with maintaining Novi Beograd’s domestic dominance, guiding the team back to the Champions League final, and continuing the development of the club’s younger players. With a proven track record of success and a reputation for discipline and tactical clarity, he now takes on one of the most high-profile coaching roles in European club water polo.
