Pro Recco move one win away from Italian title

Pro Recco defeated Brescia for the second time in two days to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the Italian League final series.

After opening the best-of-five final with a 12-8 victory, the defending champions followed it with a 17-12 win at home and are now just one victory away from retaining the title.

Recco took control immediately, scoring four unanswered goals during the opening quarter. Brescia finally broke through just 16 seconds into the second period when Jacopo Guerrato reduced the deficit to 4-1.

The visitors found more success in attack during the second quarter, scoring five times, but Recco consistently responded and maintained a 9-5 advantage at halftime.

Luka Buric opened the scoring after the interval to restore Recco’s five-goal lead. Brescia was unable to reduce the deficit below three goals, while the hosts extended their advantage to six on three occasions during the second half.

Giacomo Cannella led Recco with four goals, while Alvaro Granados, Thomas Vernoux Pavillard and Max Irving each scored twice. Jacopo Del Basso was Brescia’s leading scorer with three.

Game 3 will be played in Brescia on Monday. Victory would complete a 3-0 series sweep and secure another Italian championship for Recco.
