Pro Recco have confirmed the loan signing of one of Hungary’s brightest young talents, Bence Haverkampf.
The 18-year-old centre-back, born in Berlin in 2006, arrives from Hungarian club Ferencváros, where he made his mark playing 20 league matches and clinching two national titles with the European champions.
Haverkampf’s journey to Pro Recco is the next step in a blossoming career. Having grown up in Germany and played for Spandau, he made a return to Hungary in 2022, where he further developed his skills. With the Hungarian U-18 national team, Haverkampf has already built an impressive resume, winning the U-18 World Cup in Buenos Aires this July. This victory followed his triumph in the U-16 category at the 2022 World Championships in Greece. He also has a European Championships gold medal to his name from 2021.
In his first words as a Pro Recco player, Haverkampf expressed his excitement: “It was all very quick, my coach Balazs Nyeki asked me if I wanted to go to Pro Recco and I didn’t think twice before accepting. From then on, the two clubs reached an agreement and finalized the transfer. I’m excited and happy, it’s always been a dream to wear the Pro Recco cap; as a child, my idol was Aaron Younger, and I can’t wait to play with him in Italy.”
Haverkampf is a versatile player but prefers playing on the left side of the pool. He is eager to contribute to the team’s success, stating, “I hope to become a useful player for the team and help Pro Recco win.”
It is likely that Haverkampf will return to Ferencvaros, and Budapest, next season.
