Rapallo and Trieste Lead the Way After Matchday 3 in Serie A1 Women

The third round of Italy’s Women’s Serie A1 saw four matches played on Saturday, with one fixture postponed to Wednesday. After the weekend’s results, Rapallo and Trieste share the top of the standings with eight points each, sitting just ahead of Ekipe Orizzonte and SIS Roma.

Rapallo earned an impressive 16–9 victory away to Cosenza, under the watchful eye of Italy women’s national team coach Carlo Silipo. The contest was evenly balanced until midway through the second quarter, when, with the score tied at 5–5, Rapallo launched a decisive seven-goal run to pull clear. Canadian international Verica Bakoc led the scoring with four goals.

Trieste also delivered a dominant performance, winning 19–8 away at Civitavecchia. The hosts held firm in the opening quarter (4–3), but Trieste soon took control and stormed to a 14–4 lead after three periods. Brittany McDowall was outstanding, netting seven goals for the visitors, while Lombella scored five for the home side.

At the Nesima pool in Catania, Italian champions Ekipe Orizzonte returned to winning ways, defeating Plebiscito Padova 13–5. After a balanced first quarter (3–2), Padova briefly equalized through Alessia Millo, but Orizzonte responded emphatically with a nine-goal streak to seal the points. Claudia Marletta and Morena Leone both recorded hat-tricks for the reigning champions.

In Genoa, SIS Roma made light work of Locatelli, cruising to a 22–2 win. Agnese Cocchiere was in fine form, scoring six goals, while Panna Kudella added four. Sixteen-year-old Margherita Minuto, a former player of the home side, also found the net against her old club.

The round concludes on Wednesday, October 22, when Bogliasco hosts Brizz Nuoto in Recco. Sinatra’s side has been competing in the Euro Cup qualifying round over the weekend.
