World-class water polo marked the opening of the new Spanish season, as CN Sabadell faced CN Sant Andreu in a clash that has quickly become a modern classic. Both teams arrived at Barcelona’s Piscina Sant Jordi stacked with international talent, including several recent medalists from this summer’s World Championships in Singapore.
It was the newly restructured Sabadell who shone brightest, controlling the game from start to finish to secure their 13th Spanish Super Cup with an emphatic 11–8 victory.
The opening quarter set the tone. A refreshed Sabadell side, led by coach David Palma, stunned Sant Andreu with a blistering 5–0 run — featuring two goals apiece from Simone van de Kraats and Paula Crespí, and another from Ona Jurado. The early burst left their opponents struggling to find a foothold.
Sant Andreu rallied in the second quarter, with Ari Ruiz and Alice Williams briefly cutting into the deficit, but Sabadell’s composure never wavered. Jurado struck again before halftime, restoring a comfortable margin and sending her side into the break leading 8–3.
Third quarter proves decisive
After the restart, Sabadell continued to dominate defensively, closing down Sant Andreu’s attacks and managing the tempo with maturity. Marina Dalmases capped the third period with a buzzer-beating goal to maintain a five-goal cushion at 10–5.
Sant Andreu’s Elena Ruiz found the net early in the final quarter to spark faint hopes of a comeback, but Isa Piralkova’s response quickly extinguished them. Although Sant Andreu finished with a late 0–2 run, the damage had long been done.
The final whistle confirmed a convincing 11–8 win and another Super Cup crown for Sabadell — a perfect start to the season for Palma’s side, who once again look poised to be the team to beat in Spanish women’s water polo.
