Savona, Brescia, and Pro Recco maintain perfect starts in Serie A1

Three clubs remain unbeaten after five rounds of the Italian Serie A1 season: Savona, Brescia, and Pro Recco all recorded their fifth consecutive victories to stay joint top of the table with 15 points.

Savona overcame one of the season’s surprise packages, Olympic Roma, winning 20–11 in the capital. Alberto Angelini’s side made a lightning start, scoring within the first minute and racing to a 13–4 lead early in the third period. Pietro Figlioli was outstanding with five goals, while Guidi opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the match. Although Roma briefly narrowed the deficit to 11–16, Savona reasserted control in the final quarter to claim a comfortable win.

Brescia and Pro Recco both delivered emphatic home victories. Brescia dismantled Florentia 21–7, led by Del Basso’s four goals. Recco proved equally ruthless, defeating Posillipo 22–8, with Álvaro Granados netting five times for the reigning champions.

In Trieste, the home team moved into fourth place with a convincing 22–13 win over Telimar. Faraglia (five goals) and Draskovic (four) spearheaded the attack as Trieste leapt ahead of Palermo and Roma Vis Nova in the standings.

De Akker clinched a dramatic 13–12 away victory over Canottieri Napoli at the Scandone Pool, their second win in three days following a midweek penalty shootout success against Ortigia. In a tight contest, Bragantini scored the decisive goal with 49 seconds remaining. Napoli’s Confuorto scored four times, including the equalizer at 12–12, but his efforts weren’t enough to salvage a point.

Salerno and Genova Quinto played out one of the most entertaining matches of the round, with Quinto narrowly winning 13–12. The visitors appeared to be cruising after leading 13–10 with five and a half minutes to play, but Salerno, backed by a vocal home crowd, mounted a late surge. De Freitas struck four times, while Sifanno added a late double, but time ran out before they could equalize.

The round opened on Friday in Monterotondo, where Roma Vis Nova edged Ortigia 16–14 in a thrilling contest. Mercep and Penava both scored five goals for the hosts, who led 9–8 at halftime and managed to hold off the Sicilians’ late push. Di Corato was also instrumental in the victory, helping Roma to climb to eight points, level with Telimar.
