Three Hungarian names are being linked with major moves across the regional market, with David Tatrai and Gergely Burian rumoured to be targets for VK Jug Dubrovnik, while Matyas Meszaros is being connected with VK Novi Beograd.
At this stage, only the Gergely Burian transfer from CNAB has been confirmed.
Tatrai, 22, is one of the standout young names in Hungarian water polo. Born in Budapest on 15 August 2003, the BVSC player is listed by the Hungarian federation as a left-side wing. His rise has been steady rather than sudden. After coming through the Hungarian junior setup, he represented Hungary at youth level before moving into the senior national team picture, appearing at both European and World Championship level. World Aquatics described his progression from the Hungarian junior team to senior international water polo as a major step in his development.
For Jug, Tatrai would fit the profile of a young, high-upside signing: mobile, sharp, and already tested in a strong domestic environment. A move to Dubrovnik would also offer him a different kind of pressure, at a club where expectations remain high even during periods of transition.
Burian, meanwhile, will bring a more experienced profile. The 28-year-old left-hander was born on 12 March 1998 and is listed at around 194-195cm. He built the first major part of his career in Hungary, spending time with Vasas and OSC before joining Barceloneta in 2024, where he ended his time at the club by winning this seasons Champions League.
Internationally, Burian has also been part of Hungary’s senior setup, winning silver at the 2022 European Championships and later featuring among the Hungarian players involved at the highest level. If the Jug rumour develops, he would be a proven left-handed option with Champions League experience and the maturity to make an immediate impact.
Meszaros, like Tatrai, is part of BVSC’s strong 2003 generation. BVSC list him as born in 2003, a home-grown player, and a left-side/wing option. His rumoured link with Novi Beograd is particularly interesting because it would represent a move from a development-focused Hungarian environment into one of the most ambitious and demanding clubs in Europe.
For BVSC, losing Tatrai and Meszaros in the same window would be a major blow, but also a compliment to the club’s work. Both players have developed inside a system that continues to produce players capable of attracting attention beyond Hungary.
For Jug and Novi Beograd, the logic is clear. These are players with Hungarian schooling, strong technical foundations and room to grow. Tatrai and Meszaros would bring youth and long-term potential, while Burian would offer experience, size and left-handed balance.
