Pro Recco Waterpolo, Brescia, and Savona lead the Men’s Serie A1 standings with perfect records after three matchdays. The trio continued their winning runs in style, while Salerno claimed local bragging rights in a dramatic derby.
Recco and Brescia in Command
Italian champions Pro Recco showed no mercy at home, dispatching De Akker Team 22–13 in Genoa. Gergo Irving stole the spotlight with a six-goal performance, leading a ruthless Recco side that remains the league’s benchmark in attack and efficiency.
Over in Lombardy, AN Brescia dominated Telimar 18–7 at the Mompiano pool. The match was effectively decided by halftime, with Alesiani and Guerrato both netting four times. Alessandro Bovo’s men look sharp and balanced, continuing to build momentum ahead of their European campaign.
Savona’s Grit Pays Off in Syracuse
In one of the most entertaining games of the weekend, Banco BPM RN Savona edged CC Ortigia 1928 14–12 away in Syracuse. The Ligurians, coached by Alberto Angelini, had to fight back from a poor start after conceding five goals in the opening minutes and missing a penalty through Leinweber, whose shot was saved by Ruggiero.
At halftime, Ortigia led 8–6 and looked in control. However, a second-half resurgence from Savona — spearheaded by Leinweber (five goals) and Figlioli (four goals) — turned the game on its head. By the final quarter, the visitors led 11–9 and held their nerve to seal a crucial away win.
Salerno Take the Derby Spotlight
In front of a passionate home crowd and live cameras on , Salerno earned a memorable 13–10 derby victory against historic powerhouse Posillipo at the “Vitale” pool.
The match — one of the last before the venue’s renovation — delivered high drama from start to finish. Alessio Privitera, with five goals and tireless leadership, proved decisive for Salerno.
Posillipo, featuring Pasquale Porzio (son of legend Franco Porzio), fought hard despite the absence of coach Giuseppe Porzio due to suspension. The visitors twice took the lead early, but Salerno’s sharp counterattacks and clinical finishing from Sifanno, Gallozzi, and Privitera saw them ahead 11–9 by the end of the third quarter.
The atmosphere reached fever pitch in the final minutes as Privitera converted a penalty and Andrea Fortunato struck during a power play to secure the victory. Despite a late double from Radovic, Salerno held on to take full points — a vital win for the newly promoted side.
