Velotto heavily linked to Barceloneta

According to multiple reports, Alessandro Velotto won’t be renewing his contract with CN Marseille at the end of the current season.

Sources suggest that CN Atlètic-Barceloneta is poised to secure the services of the 30-year-old Italian defender—a move that would significantly bolster the Spanish champions’ defensive ranks.

Velotto, who joined Marseille in 2023, previously enjoyed successful stints at Canottieri Napoli (2011–2018) and Pro Recco (2018–2023), where he won three consecutive Champions League titles (2021, 2022, 2023), two Super Cups, and a host of domestic honours. In his debut season in France, he helped CNM reclaim the French championship.

With the Italian national team, Velotto boasts an Olympic bronze medal (Rio 2016), a World Championship gold (2019), and two European Championship bronze medals.

If true, this would be a major shift in European water polo: a significant loss for the French league and a major gain for Barceloneta, who continue to strengthen their squad in pursuit of another Champions League title.

Nothing is official yet, but this one seems more than just speculation…
