Pro Recco have added one of Italy’s most promising young strikers to their ranks with the signing of Andrea Patchaliev from Savona. The 22-year-old, born on May 31, 2002, has penned a three-year contract with the reigning Italian champions after a standout season in which he netted 30 goals across the regular season and Scudetto playoffs.
“It’s an honor to wear this cap,” Patchaliev said following the announcement. “At the end of the season, I felt like I had to change something in my life: I wanted to raise the bar even higher, and when Pro Recco called, I couldn’t say no to one of the best clubs in the world. I was hoping for it, honestly, but I wasn’t expecting it.”
Patchaliev arrives in Liguria with more than just raw talent—he brings ambition, discipline, and a deep sense of self-awareness. “I know I have to improve in every way, physically and mentally, but by training every day with so many champions, I’m sure I’ll be able to absorb a lot.”
Currently finishing a degree in Energy Engineering at the University of Genoa with a focus on sustainability, Patchaliev has balanced academic and athletic excellence. He trained with the Settebello squad ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Singapore and is currently in Duisburg representing Italy at the Universiade.
His move to Recco reunites him with several national teammates, including Cassia, Condemi, Mladossich, and Iocchi Gratta—his former roommate and teammate at Savona. Patchaliev also expressed excitement about working under head coach Sandro Sukno, whose talent and leadership have been widely praised. “Everyone has spoken highly of Sukno, and Coach Campagna confirmed that he’s truly talented. With him, I can only improve.”
As for his role in the pool, Patchaliev is most comfortable in the 1–2 position but is ready to contribute wherever needed. “I’ll give it my all in whatever position the coach puts me.”
Patchaliev cites Daniel Lopez Pinedo, Felipe Perrone, and especially teammate Christian Molina as major influences. “Playing with Molina in Savona was incredible, and Di Fulvio is, of course, a role model for all of us Italians.”
