Barceloneta claim 20th Copa Catalunya title

The 2025/26 season began in familiar fashion in Catalonia, with Atlètic-Barceloneta lifting the Copa Catalunya for the 18th time in the competition’s history. The reigning Spanish champions have now won 10 editions in a row, underlining their dominance in regional competition.

Since the tournament’s inception, only Terrassa (2012) and Sabadell (2016) have managed to break Barceloneta’s monopoly on the trophy.

Final Four in Barcelona

The Final Four was staged in Barcelona, where Barceloneta and Sabadell met in the title decider for the fourth consecutive year. With new head coach Fran Fernández at the helm, Barceloneta once again proved too strong, defeating Sabadell 17:10 in Sunday’s final.

The opening half was tightly contested. Barceloneta took a 2:0 lead, but Sabadell equalised on five occasions (from 2:2 to 6:6). Just before the break, Vince Vigvári converted a penalty to restore Barceloneta’s advantage, before doubling the lead early in the third quarter. A decisive 5:0 run followed, pushing the hosts ahead 11:6. Sabadell never recovered, and Barceloneta stretched the final margin to seven goals.

Key performers

Barceloneta’s victory was powered by Bernat Sanahuja and Vince Vigvári, who each netted five goals. Gergely Burian added three. For Sabadell, Sergi Barroso led the way with a hat-trick.

Earlier in the semifinals, Barceloneta had eased past Terrassa (17:4), while Sabadell overturned an early deficit to beat Barcelona 12:8. Barcelona went on to secure the bronze medal with a 19:14 win over Terrassa.
