The 2025/26 Croatian League opened this weekend with five matches, and the story of the round was Mornar’s impressive away victory over Solaris. While four of the favorites cruised with double-digit wins, Mornar proved that the season may hold a few surprises.
Mornar shocks Solaris in Šibenik
The only real upset came in Šibenik, where Mornar defeated Solaris 12:10. The final margin of two goals flatters the hosts—Mornar controlled the game from the start, leading 8:3 at halftime and holding a 12:6 advantage with less than five minutes to play. Solaris scored four late goals to reduce the deficit, but the points went to Split. Luka Omrčen stood out for Mornar with three goals, while Solaris’ new signing David Mijić (ex-Vasas) also netted three.
Champions begin strongly
Reigning champions Jadran Split made light work of KPK Korčula, recording a 22:9 victory. New arrival Dušan Matković had a dream debut, finding the net four times. Captain Jerko Marinić Kragić remains sidelined after surgery, and it is still unclear when he will return.
Mladost overpower Zadar
In Zagreb, Mladost crushed Zadar 20:7. Veteran Andrija Bašić led the charge with four goals as Mladost showed their firepower early in the season.
Jug and Primorje ruthless at home
Jug AO Dubrovnik put on a scoring clinic in their 24:8 win against Medveščak, with Vlaho Pavlić unstoppable on six goals.
Meanwhile, Primorje EB Rijeka produced the most emphatic victory of the round, dismantling OVK Split 28:5. Returning star Marko Radulović, back in Rijeka after eight years, celebrated his comeback with five goals.
